Episode at a glance:
[04:56] Copywriting
There’s high demand for writers who craft words to convert leads into sales – especially in the online space. Think websites, sales pages, landing pages, about pages, and blog content. There’s also demand for print materials – brochures, press releases, and ads.
[09:46] Feature Articles
Newspapers and magazines, both print and online, are looking for freelance writers. You’ll start with a query letter to the magazine’s editor.
Study the magazine and all the back issues carefully to see what they’ve already published, and to put your finger on the pulse of who the audience is, or the niche that they serve, so that you have a better chance of getting an assignment.
[12:35] Email Marketing
These are usually weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly emails sent to a subscriber list. They include welcome sequences, new product announcements, sales, inspiration or education.
[16:25] Social Media
Many companies and entrepreneurs do not have time to do their own social media. This is commonly hired out by a freelancer to post daily. Social media posts can engage, inform, educate, inspire, or start conversations.
[18:00] Writing Contests
Contests are a great way to earn extra money and bring your story to the highest version. There are contests for new and unpublished fiction writers, nonfiction writers, memoir writers, novelists, flash fiction writers, and poets. You’ll find contest awards for first chapters, novel excerpts, flash fiction and short stories.
