Now that we’re in a brand new year, it’s a good time to reflect on what worked in the past year, what didn’t work, and most importantly, what we can do differently to write with more ease and expansion in 2025.
Time is a precious resource, and we don’t want to squander it by spinning in the wrong direction again and again. But there are some mindset shifts we need to make in order to move the needle.
So in this episode, I’m going to share 3 ways you can write with more freedom, curiosity, and joy.

Episode at a glance:
[01:58] Start From Where You Are
Not where you want to be, or where you think you should be, or would rather be. Where you are now is exactly where you need to be.
When you work from where you are right now, you have room to grow. And you’re less likely to find fault in your work, or condemn your worth as a writer.
[05:17] Be Curious
Often writers are wedded to a certain blueprint. It might be The Hero’s Journey or Save The Cat.
But structure is not a formula. It’s a way of thinking our way through our story. It’s how we organize our thoughts, our feelings and our instincts about the story. So use your work in progress as a point of inquiry rather than a plug and play blueprint.
[07:54] Hold Your Ideas About Your Story Loosely
You want to avoid deciding what the story must be or what must happen to fill in a preconceived outline.
Structure is dynamic. Even if you have an outline, stay open to where your story takes you. Give it some air, let it breathe, and allow your story to evolve.
