Episode at a glance:

[02:93]  What are plot points? They’re major turning points in your story that upend your protagonist’s life, and change the pace for him or her. Learn what elements to have in place before you chart your plot points.

[02:57] Whether you use the Hero’s Journey, Save the Cat, or no structure at all, every story ever told has a beginning, middle, and end. Let’s simplify it in terms of Act One, Act Two, Act Three, with a rundown of what percentage of your book each Act comprises.

[03:37] Plot Point 1 marks the first major turning point for your protagonist and has consequences. It’s the bridge between Act 1 and Act 2.

[05:10] Act Two is the bulk of your story. It is your story. Everything up until now has set up the story problem your protagonist must now solve. The first half of Act Two is where your protagonist reacts to what happened in Act. 1.

[06:52] Plot Point 2 is your midpoint and it’s where your protagonist now actively engages with the antagonistic forces, whether they’re external or internal.

[06:52] Plot Point 3 is your final plot point that leads us into Act 3 and the ultimate confrontation between protagonist and antagonist.
