One of the most important decisions you’re going to make about your story is its point of view.

It’s also one of the more complex story structures to master.

So, in this episode, I’m going to give you a different angle on point of view that you probably haven’t heard before.

Whether you’re writing in first person, third person limited, or third person omniscient, you’ll learn to control POV more and take advantage of the range available to you.

Episode at a glance:

[02:00] The difference between first-person narration and third-person narration and why point of view is much more than which person you write in.

[03:12] Learn the primary purpose of point of view along with an example of how it’s done.

[07:23] Both first- and third-person narrators use the same techniques, including omniscience. We’ll define exactly what omniscience is (it’s not the all-knowing God-like narrator).

We’ll bust the myth about first person being more limited than third, with examples of just how much range you have.

[16:05] How do you enter the thoughts of your characters through a more distant third-person?

You’ll get both a first draft version of a character’s point of view, and a revised version where the author goes deeper, plus my break down on why the second version is more powerful.
